Our 1st Trip To The Capitol

Jaxson got invited to a very cool birthday party last week.  It was his preschool buddy, Beau’s, 5th birthday and it was at the Capitol.  How cool is that?  Crazy that a 5 year old would want to have his party at the Capitol, but his mom said that he has wanted to go to “the building with the gold on the top” for a long time now.  Holden and I tagged along to help keep all the kids in line and together, but really I wanted to go because I have never been there before. . . sad, I know.  We had a tour that lasted an hour and our tour guide was fabulous for the kids.  She was able to tell and show the history, but yet tell it in a way that 5 year olds would understand and stay interested.  We learned and saw so much of this beautiful building.

Our 1st trip to the capitol.

Checking out a statue inside.

Holden heading up the big staircase.

The whole group.

Jaxson in front of a model of the USS Iowa.

Checking out one of the bells that was on the USS Iowa.

Learning about the Iowa flag.

About ready to open the heavy door to the State Auditor's safe.

Inside the safe. It was a couple stories.

Laying down on the glass floor looking up at the beautiful ceiling.

The beautiful ceiling.

Holden liked scooting around on the glass floor on his butt 🙂

Sitting in the 100+ year old chairs in the old Supreme Court room.

Future Supreme Court Judge?

Of course Holden had to do all of the stairs all by himself.

Holden got to meet one of the Senators in person 🙂

Wow, I would never have thought of the Capitol as a place for a birthday party! What a clever and educational idea. Glad the kids enjoyed it, and that you got a chance to see it, too! I’ll have to keep this in mind for future party ideas 🙂
