Catching Some Air

The kids had fun jumping off of the swings yesterday.  Luckily, there were no broken bones 🙂

Miah with quite the pose.

Meals From The Heartland

Today, Latrice and I volunteered for a couple hours for Meals From The Heartland.  Meals From The Heartland is something that our church started a few years ago with the purpose to feed the starving.  It has grown in size over the years and is now held at Hy-Vee Hall.  We had a lot of fun working with a group from Wells Fargo.  In two hours our group packaged 20 boxes of meals, which is 720 bags of food which will go all over the world to feed the starving.  Their goal this year is to package 5 million meals!  Wow, what a difference that can make in the world.

A bunch of volunteers hard at work.

I got to dish up the dried veggies and they actually smelled very good.

A Little Rain Isn’t Going To Ruin Our Party

On Saturday we had our annual block party. . . in the rain.  I was so bummed at first because I’ve been planning this party for several weeks now.  I had plans to have it in our nice big greenbelt area and to have the jumphouses out and to have kids games.  Brad was busy all morning cleaning out the garage and getting that ready.  We put our canopy tent up and our neighbor came over and asked if we wanted the three that she had in her garage. . . um yeah!  Well, who would have guessed that maybe it turned out better with the rain?  I had several neighbors tell me that they think it turned out better because we were all forced to stay in one area and sit together, talk, and get to know one another better.  The kids still had a blast riding their bikes in the street and playing in the off and on rain.  We had over 50 neighbors come out for the party and some stayed until around midnight.  A good time was had by all 🙂

Holden had to ride his trike to the barricades and back.

The kids still enjoyed playing in the street.

Uh Oh. . . you know it’s a wild party when the cops show up 🙂 Don’t worry, it’s just Matt bringing the kids a bunch of goodies.

Some of the best neighbors ever, Diana and Rick.

And of course Ann 🙂

The kids had fun doing potato sack races at 11:00 pm.

The moms had fun too!

Jaxson’s 1st Day Of Kindergarten!

Wow, Tuesday was a big day!  A day that came really fast.  I can’t believe that my baby is in school.  He was so excited to go and has been talking about it for a while now.  He got up and got all ready and we were off.  We walked to school since it was a beautiful day and luckily Daddy and Nana Pam were able to be off of work to walk with us.  Jaxson showed Nana where his locker was and put all of his stuff away and went right to his desk, sat down and started to color.  Surprisingly, I didn’t cry and of course Jaxson didn’t either.  It helps that he is so ready to go to school and was looking forward to it.  I have been close to tears a couple times though listening to Holden throughout the days looking for Jaxson.  We got home from the store and he ran into the house saying, “Bebay, where are you?  Mommy, where’s Bebay?”  I’d remind him that he’s at school.  “I wanna go get Bebay.”  I remind him that we will go get him after his nap.  “No! I wanna go get Bebay now!”  I know he will adjust; I just hope that it’s pretty soon.  We were very excited to go get him his first day.  He walked out with a big smile on his face.  He was excited to tell me about his day.  His favorite part so far is recess and his least favorite is lunchtime.  This morning he said that he didn’t want to go to school because lunchtime is confusing. I think it’s the process that he’s not sure of i.e. how to dish up his food, where to sit.  It doesn’t help that the first day I guess they sat him with the wrong class, so I think he’s a bit anxious about it.   So I had Miah come over and talk to him about the lunch process this morning and he seemed to be better.  So with Jaxson being at school, we are adjusting to a new normal and quietness around here that we haven’t heard in a long time.  I am excited about spending a lot of one-on-one time with Holden that I haven’t had. . . ever.  I am also looking forward to volunteering in Jaxson’s classroom for parties and field trips. . . let the fun school days begin 🙂

Jaxson’s 1st day of Kindergarten and Miah’s 1st day of 4th grade.

Ready to go into school.

Putting his things in his locker.

Ready to get to work.

Jaxson At 6 Years Old

Jaxson, at 6 years old you stand 4 ft 1 in. and weigh 57 lbs.   Yep, you are big and you are very excited to be taller than Mommy and Daddy pretty soon.  You love playing with your friends and your brother.  Your best friends right now are Riley and Miah and you guys love to ride your bikes, play on the swingset, play Wii and play house (that’s Miah’s influence on you) 🙂  Just recently you have really gotten into Legos.  Your favorite foods are quesadillas, turkey sandwiches, pizza, mac and cheese, chicken and rice casserole, steak, and of course any and all candy.  Your favorite thing to do with Daddy is to go with him when he plays sand volleyball.  Your favorite thing to do with Mommy is put Legos together .  Your favorite thing to do with Holden is to make him laugh.  You love going to church.  You are a very thoughtful boy and you make me proud everyday with the choices that you make.  You are a leader.  We are so proud of the little boy you have become and look forward to seeing how you will change in this next year.

The Party Continued

On Sunday evening, we had some neighbors over for smores to celebrate some August birthdays.  It was a perfect night to sit outside and enjoy a fire.

We hope to do this more this fall. What a good time!

Brad was a little tired from all of the weekend partying 🙂

We had Jaxson’s 6th birthday party on Sunday at The Pizza Ranch in Ames.  We had a very nice time and I enjoyed not having to prepare any food and clean up.  You can’t beat that!  Thanks to all of our family for helping Jaxson have such a great birthday.
